The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Developer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Feedback
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct direction.
The president stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Key Hires
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full text from the president's communication:
Team—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, he officially joins us on the specified date.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most popular series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the time to ahead.
The President
Experience of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, before that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Vision
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that shift every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."
Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but fans can look forward to further news as creation progresses.
